[Netherlands 2019] Amsterdam - Rijksmuseum & Van Gogh Museum [Part One]

Amsterdam!

The capital of the Netherlands which famous with canals, tulips and museums. It's also one of the most futuristic cities in the world!

Canals are everywhere in the Netherlands, I think water does have a beautifying effect on a city. Compare to other cities, Amsterdam is more crowded and has a more modern feeling.

Our first thing to do in Amsterdam is buying the I Amsterdam City Card! There's an official store in the train station. We bought the 24-hour card so we could use public transportation till the same time tomorrow (once you beep the card). Also, there are more than 60 free & discounted attractions it offered, i.e. 15 % off for pedal boats we're taking tomorrow.

It's 60 euro for 24-hour, quite expensive, but you can save a lot if you use it wisely. Also, it's time-saving & hassle-free!

 Time to take the ferry!
(Our hotel is on the opposite side)

It's quite convenient as there's a countdown clock for each ferry, so you can go inside the station to grab something if the time allowed.

There were too many airplane trails!! >:(

This is where we stay for tonight - BOTEL!! Sleeping on a boat sounds fun right!!

So our plan for today is MUSEUMS → CRUISE → RED LIGHT DISTRICT!

By using the city card we don't need to spend a penny on these attractions again! :D
Ah but unfortunately museum in the red light district was not included so we didn't visit it.

So we took the ferry back to the city centre and took the tram (for the first time!) to the museum area. All famous museums are located in one area - super convenient for us lol XD

Once you get off from the tram, you need to walk for a bit and you'll see the open-air market in front of those big museums. There were two kinds of market: food & art. And we just went for the food one hahahaha, sorry for being non-artistic at all :P.

We were craving for something sweet so even though it's expensive... tourist price... The wind made us buy it!

Bitterballen, the traditional Dutch snack! (with mustard)
It's not bitter, but a bit different from what you will expect from a meatball...?
It's like savoury, mushy meatball...but I don't really know what kind of meat.
According to Yuhong, it tastes like Chinese porridge inside XD

First museum: Rijksmuseum

Just took some photos of collections that I think are interesting,
The museum was too big we couldn't really finish it on time (no time limit but we had our schedule!)

I hope one day I could use a goblet to drink wine! XD

3D Last Supper.

Hollanders are proud of the dutch maritime power in the past I think.
(It's actually unrelated with the photo, it's just a sudden thought when I was in the museum XD)

Hi Vincent! We are seeing you later at another museum! :D

These spikes remind me of the Iron Throne hahahaha~

A miniature model of the colonial-period Indonesian society.

Fancy glasses for the richs to show off!

An old library. It looks so cool..
It was for the scholars and navigators during the period when the Dutch navy was powerful. I hope I could wander around the shelves (look for a secret note inside the books or something else lol) but it was closed for preservation. T_T

Dollhouses bigger than me!
Had to climb up the ladder to see the details.
They are rich women's toys lol.

Holland is also famous for its blue porcelain art - Delft Blue.

There was a really big lawn area outside and people were just sitting and lying in the sun. Yuhong and I was thinking to go there for fresh air after finishing up our trip inside those dim-lighted museums, but we ran out of time :'(

2nd museum: Van Gogh Museum

There is a lot to look at this museum too, not only artworks but also his life stories. It was kind of fun to listen to the English translation of his letters to family&friends. He had some very interesting thoughts, quite philosophical. And you can get to know why he cut his ear too!

Montmartre! Was going to visit there on my Paris trip!
(I did and it's one of my favorite sites there hehe)

This is my favourite piece by Van Gogh. So blue <3

We could only see tulips from here TT

Very cool, Mr. Skeleton!

Lastly, we got a chance to take a photo with Vincent!!
This is my first time taking photos with a world-famous (and dead) artist!! ≧▽≦y

Originally we planned to visit at least 3 museums to fully utilize the city pass... But we were so tired...>_< Actually visiting museums really takes a lot of energy and time, so keep it in mind while planning your museum trip!

So! We decided to just visit another small museum and start looking out for canals! (We didn't really see any since we took the tram) And also Dutch pancake~ <3
