[Paris 2019] The Ultimate Guide to Food in Paris!
Actually... I didn't really try out many famous restaurants or shops in Paris in order to save on budget. However I did have some really good food during the trip, and I think they are really worth spending money on! So I'm just going to recommend some shops that I love and value for money.
My conclusion is that French food is the best thing ever that you should never miss in Paris!!! If you are travelling here, just go to try some local delicacies although they might be pricey, but believe me, you won't regret it.
(Well, I might be exaggerating a bit but I really love French food! Also, food is one of the most important elements while travelling for me haha~ I feel happy if I ate something nice, especially dessert :P)
Also, they suit my taste but maybe not yours. However I always believe that the real good things will always gain recognition from the majority!
【Bakeries - Bread, Pastries & Cakes】
My personal goal was at least have 2 kind of desserts in one day!
But I failed to achieve it T_T So I had 3 in my last day...still not enough!!!!
1. Ladurée - Macarons
Rating: ★★★★☆
The most famous macarons shop I believe.
I chose the flavour based on colour :P
Marie Antoinette & Pistachio, both are sweet and tasty <3
2. Pierre Hermé - Macarons
Rating: ★★★★★
The best macaroons I've tried!
This shop is famous with its creative and wide range of flavours.
And the crusts look shiny which makes it look so fancy haha~
Macarons are so tiny and lovely <3
Ignore the sandwiches and wine...
The tiny metal box was so cute right!!
We've tried chocolate, raspberry, pistachio and mixed flavoured of something I don't remember but taste so good.

The bakeries below are in Clamart where my Airbnb located. Didn't really get to try bakeries in Paris, but I believe every bakery in France will not taste bad lol (as it is so competitive over there)
3. Aux Délices de Clamart
Rating: ★★★★☆
Had plain croissant (€0.95), chocolate croissant (€1.2) and raisin roll (€1.2) (I mistook it as cinnamon roll at first lol :P) from this shop for breakfast. They tasted very good!
For the last day I decided to buy 2 desserts for myself as farewell gift~ The lady packed them in a gift box made me so happy :D
They are Chocolate Eclair (€2.4) and Mille-feuille (€2.5).
When the chocolate cream inside burst inside your mouth after the first bite, you get a taste of heaven (of chocolate).
The napoleon cake!
They both made me want to stay here longer for the sake of desserts...
I haven't tried all of them I don't want to leave... T_T
3. The delights of fork
Rating: ★★★★☆
This shop was recommended by our Airbnb host!
Chocolate tart? It was so good T_T Especially the puff on top!
Pie made from cheese, bacon and egg? I don't know but it just taste so good.

【Restaurants】
1. Le Petit Marche
Location: Le Marais
Highlight: Best roasted duck and chilling vibe
Rating: ★★★★★
After the long and freezing cruise ride on Seine River (it was so enjoyable at the same time tho), we were starving and craving for good food. Even though this shop was so faraway (30 mins metro + walking), we still decided to go for it as it was strongly recommended by a friend who had really stayed for a long time in Paris.
The shop looks really cute from outside.
And the interior was also romantic too. It was so cozy inside that made me feel like in heaven... (especially I was nearly dead from the freezing weather outside)
There was no English menu, while I observed that there were both locals and tourists in the shop. We asked the waitress for the recommendation and ordered 2 dishes:
Roasted duck with grilled banana (€23)
(Magret de canard caramélisé aux bananes figues)
Steak with pepper sauce (€25)
(Entrecôte sauce au poivre)
Forgot to take a photo sorry :P
Besides the main courses, fresh green bean & mashed potato were served together (The mashed potato was so smooth and tasty!) The restaurant is famous with it's duck dish and I think it deserves the good name for sure! The sauce of the steak was very nice, but I've already had steak in the afternoon so it was too heavy for me lol.
There was a dog sitting besides me, so cute <3
When we were eating the food, I just couldn't stop smiling... The food was tasty, the environment was pleasant, the staff was friendly and attentive, the customers around looked cheerful - the atmosphere was perfect...! I was drowned in this good vibes :)
The price was rather expensive, but it's my last night in Paris - who cares :P
2. La Tour
Location: Versailles
Highlight: Snails!
Rating: ★★★★
We really wanted to eat meat so we chose this restaurant haha. The set lunch costed €23 and we thought it would be enough to share it (as the food portion in Europe is always so big lol) Surprisingly we found out this restaurant serves snails!
By the way when we pushed the door and walked inside the shop, everyone stared at us for a moment and we were feeling a bit awkward lol. But after that the waiter and waitress came to serve us with a very friendly manner. Luckily this restaurant has English menu, but we still needed GOOGLE for pictures hahaha.
We also asked the waitress to explain those french dishes that we couldn't understand. She was so patient and nice, tried so hard to make us understand in English. (Even asked the customers sitting beside us hahaha)
For the set lunch you can choose either appetizer or dessert.

Appetizer: Soft boiled eggs with mayonnaise (?) on top + salad with vinegar.
ESCARGOT!!!! It means snails in French haha. We ordered 6 (€10). It is spiced with garlic, so I only got the taste of garlic actually haha. It is not as disgusting as I thought hahaha maybe because I didn't need to slurp it out from the shell. The sauce tastes so good so we put it on baguette and finished all the bread lol. We were terrified when they served us a new basket of baguette because we were too full already!! (The main course was not even served yet!!!!)
The main course is Meat Day (a medium steak) and mashed potato with grilled cheese on top. They were sooooooo gooooood but we couldn't finish it T_T
The shop was supposed to close at 2pm but they waited us until 2:30pm as we arrived quite late. Every staff was so nice and didn't show any sign of impatience on us even though we were their last customers.
3. La Mandigotte
Location: Montmarte
Highlight: Excellent quality of food, service, and price.
Rating: ★★★★★
After strolling in the artistic alley with shopped souvenirs on hands, it's time for lunch!
We decided to order a set lunch that included Appetizer, Main Course and Dessert. At first we thought it will cost €25 (as I remember quite well I pointed the most expensive option while ordering) but ended up with only €20!!!
As the restaurant didn't have an English menu (like most of the French restaurants), we used google and also asked the waiter. The waiter had tried his best to explain and eventually he just went to find the chef to help ( Why are these people so nice to us T_T)
The chef was so nice and explained everything one by one to us. Besides that, I could sense his passion for his job when he explained everything in detail and also offered to prepare something special for us that was not on the menu. For the dessert, when I asked for the chocolate something, he straightly went back to the kitchen and brought out a sample for us! When I asked if two of us could share just one set meal, they were fine with it and even served everything in separate plates! It must have cost the chef extra time as he needed to cut everything into two and decorate them twice! (And we think the chef actually gave us portion larger than usual)
My friend and I were actually so touched because of the kindness and friendly attitude we received from French people throughout the trip... Merci beaucoup!!! T_T
Appetizer: Egg on toast with salad underneath.
Main Course: Beef in broth with mashed potato.
Dessert: Chocolate tart with chocolate cream inside!!!!
Every one of them tasted SUPER GOOD!!!!!
I really want to recommend this shop to every tourist visiting Montmarte because I think I have experienced all the qualities that I'm fond of French in this little shop - excellent food and people :)
4. Sanukiya
Location: Zone 1, Near to Louvre Museum
Highlight: Michelin award Japanese Udon
Rating: ★★★★☆
At first, I was amused by the thought of eating Asian food in Paris, but since the rating was high and it's close to Louvre Museum, why not give it a try? It turned out that it is the best Udon I have ever had!
The location is superb, we arrived within 10 mins walking from the Louvre Museum. However, we had to queue up for like 30 mins to get the seats (because we were 3 people and it's hard to find suitable seats for us) The good thing is the restaurant provided a menu in many languages, includes English and Chinese. There was also set meal so you can add other side dishes with additional €5.
My choice was hot udon with yuzu soup base - Tonjiru Udon (€15). It felt so good to warm up your belly with a bowl of hot soup in the windy afternoon. I chose Yuzu flavour because it's not common in choices of soup base and I like the slightly sour, fresh and fruity taste of it.
My friend chose the Misotama udon (€14) as she really wanted to have the onsen tama (poached egg), but the soup has a very strong, strange taste from the herb that we didn't like. Another friend chose the cold udon - Buta Shabu Udon (€17), I would say it tastes freaking good and I will order it if I have a second chance!!

Actually I'm always a budget-saving traveler and I planned not to spend too much on food... and I did follow my plan! We bought groceries from the supermarket to prepare sandwiches for some days' lunch/dinner. We even ate Korean ramen! However, after trying the French food, it's difficult to not have it again...XD Since eating out in European countries is always expensive, then why not spend more on Paris gourmet?!
Bon Appetit~
